해외 건축 공모전 수상작 해석&리뷰_arch out loud_KOREAN DMZ Underground Bathhouse 머릿말

오랜 시간 손을 멀리해왔던 블로그를 군대에 와서 다시 시작하게 되었다.

개인정비 시간 또는 연등시간에 틈틈히 와서 건축과 가구에 대해서 글을 쓸 예정이다.

 

이번에 해석할 공모전은 한반도의 DMZ 지역을 주제로 한다. 굉장히 오랫만에 이 사이트를 방문하였는데 해외 공모전에서 그것도 DMZ를 사이트로 내놓은 것을 보고 깜짝 놀랐다.

마침 군대에 있으니 당분간은 이 주제로 리뷰를 계속할 것 같다. 이 공모전의 관건은 국경 지대 -그것도 휴전 중인 국가의 비무장지대- 에서 건물이 어떤 역할을 할 것이며 양국의 긴장감을 어떻게 해소하는 것이 될 것이다.

What is context underground? Architecture contributes, agrees, conforms, reacts, responds, constrasts, conflicts, and even opposes context. But what does architecture do with context when it goes underground? In terms of geopolitics, territories are understood as representations in plan-lines on a map denoting what land belongs to who. The meaning of these lines and the territories they define is quickly deflated in section - the drawing privileged in describing architecture underground.

지하라는 주변 환경은 어떤 것일까? 건물은 주변 환경에 기여하고, 동의하고, 준수하고, 반응하고, 반응하고, 제약하고, 갈등을 일으키고, 심지어는 반대합니다. 그러나 건축이 지하로 갈 때 주변 환경과 어떤 역할을합니까? 지정학 측면에서 영토는 어떤 토지가 누구에게 속해 있는지를 나타내는 지도에서 계획 선의 표현으로 이해됩니다. 이 선들과 영토의 의미는 구역에서 빠르게 감소합니다. - 지하 건축을 표현하는데 특화되어있다.

 

 

Subterranean architecture imposes the position of an anti-object on design. With little to no visible exterior, architecture loses the assumed relationship with its situation. Space is void rather than volume, image is interior and material shares a novel and integral role with context. So what happens to the object, the icon, when it has no exterior?

지하 건축은 디자인에 반 물체의 위치를 ​​부여합니다. 외관이 보이지 않는 건축은 상황과의 관계를 잃어버린다. 공간은 부피보다는 보이드이고, 이미지는 주변환경에 새롭고 필수적인 내부와 재료이다.  그래서 외관이 없는 물체에게는 무슨 일이 일어날까?

 

 

The bathhouse maintains a historical identity as a place for social interaction. From the Roman bath to the Finnish sauna, every culture has its own unique rituals and architecture for bathing. Its functions of cleansing and liberating the body naturally relate the bathhouse typology (known in Korea as the jimjilbang) to one of the only means for non-mililtary entry into the zone: commercial tourism. Thousands of visitors already enter the DMZ each day, so this existing precedent of tourism makes the bathhouse an ideal proposition for building in the DMZ - one that is tied directly to the culture and geopolitices of Korea.

목욕탕은 사회적 교류의 장으로서 역사적 정체성을 유지하고 있습니다. 로마식 목욕탕에서 핀란드식 사우나에 이르기까지 모든 문화에는 목욕을위한 고유한 의식과 건축물이 있습니다. 몸을 정화하고 해방시키는 기능은 목욕탕 유형 (한국에서는 찜질방으로 알려짐)과 비군사적 입국 수단 중 하나인 상업 관광에 자연스럽게 관련된다. 수천명의 관광객들이 이미 DMZ에 방문했기 때문에 이 관광선례는 DMZ의 건물에 목욕탕을 짓는 것이 이상적인 제안이 되었다. -한국의 문화 및 지정학과 직접적으로 연결된.

 

 

한국사람이라면 DMZ가 어떤 구역인지는 잘 알 것이다. 더군다나 현재 군인인 나로써 DMZ에 지하 목욕탕을 짓는다는 것은 상상하기 힘든 일이다. 그러나 공모전이기에 흥미로운 사이트이긴 하다.

건축물은 지상에서 사람들 눈에 띄기 마련이지만 이번 공모전은 지하 건축물을 주제로 한다. 지하의 건축물이 어떤 의미를 가지는가에 대해 고민해야 할 것 같다. 특히 내부의 프로그램이던가 시퀀스가 중요할 것이다. 위의 글에서도 말했듯이 알 수 있다. 

관광 상품중 하나인 목욕탕을 주제로 선정한 것도 흥미로운 점이다. 현재의 목욕탕은 과거의 목욕탕의 의미를 많이 잃었지만 목욕이라는 행위의 정체성을 중요시하고 있다. 분쟁의 장에서 몸을 정화하고 해방하는 '목욕'을 과연 어떻게 건물에 담아낼 것인가가 관건일 것이다.
